Three Rare Russian Gems features works by world famous composers Tchaikovsky and Prokovief and the much lesser known Mikhail Ippolitiv-Ivanov.
The first movement is Mikhail Ippolitiv-Ivanov’s Procession of the Sardar from his Caucasian Sketches composed in 1894. This march is probably his best known work and is still performed in “pop” concerts as a stand alone item to this day.
 
The second movement in this suite is an arrangement of Prokovief’s Promenade Music which is part of a piano suite entitled Music for Children op 65. This delightful waltz provides a lovely musical contrast between Mikhail Ippolitiv-Ivanov’s Procession and Tchaikovsky’s heroic Coronation March written for the coronation of Alexander III in 1833. 
 
This suite provides a reminder of the many gems that lie beneath the tried and tested path of the standard repertoire and for performer and listener alike a further insight into the grandeur and depth of Russia’s rich musical history.
